Extended Bio

Vince Horner grew up in Overland Park, KS—a suburb on the Kansas side of a city that straddles two states. The presence of a State Line Road functioned as a meditation on dualities and served as a catalyst to contemplate crossing thresholds of greater importance. His family encouraged his artistic pursuits. Along with bike rides to Baskin-Robbins, his childhood was highlighted by pilgrimages to the art supply store where he would spend lengthy periods contemplating which colored pencils were the most necessary before  spending his allowance on just a few. It was an exercise in establishing what significance and value existed between the twenty different shades of blue. In addition to his lifelong interest in painting and drawing, he has a deep connection to the live music scene and loves playing guitar.

After years of involvement with music and other creative disciplines such as film, Horner cut out distractions and shifted back to a focus on oil paint around 2015—the medium that had resonated with him since early childhood. His work is firmly grounded in tradition, branching into naturalism and surrealism. Through the use of bold forms, smooth lines, and vibrant, clean colors, he highlights the primal beauty and musicality of the natural world. While Dada and Abstract Expressionism are significant influences, he remains focused on delivering red-meat results: substantive work that values clarity over abstraction. His work utilizes strong, archetypal images to provoke a subtle narrative echo that creates a space where meaning solidifies through the viewer's personal perspective.

Vince Horner’s goal is to create art that pierces through existential emptiness to fuel and nourish the soul. He aims to cultivate a renewed appreciation for the discipline of fine art in general, re-establishing a sense of excitement and legitimacy in the post-modern era. He wants to inspire humans to be better humans, to better understand what it means to be human, to appreciate beauty and greatness all around us, and to find greatness within themselves. Looking forward, he is focused on adding depth through serialization and juxtaposition of the current themes. He is currently based in Boise, ID.
